Event Series Event Series: Post-diagnostic education sessions

Deddington post-diagnostic education session – Part 1

Two ladies at a whiteboard

Getting a diagnosis of dementia can be upsetting and overwhelming. It’s often difficult to talk openly and it’s common to feel isolated, but you’re not alone. These sessions aim to help you understand and cope with the changes ahead and spend time and share with other newly diagnosed people and families. We design and deliver post-diagnostic sessions alongside people living with dementia.

This is the first session of two parts, both of which are two hours long. Part two will be at the same time and place exactly a week after this session.
This first session focuses on diagnosis and understanding dementia.

The sessions are designed to help you:

  • Understand what dementia is and how it feels to be living with it
  • Encourage independence for as long as possible
  • Empower you to have open, supportive conversations
  • Enable people with dementia to play an active role in planning their own future

These sessions are completely free to anyone living with dementia and their families and caregivers in Oxfordshire.

Here is some of the feedback we’ve had so far:

It helped me to understand that there is still a person with a personality and feelings rather than the rather frightening stigma that life is over for us both

‘What I really enjoyed is listening to and seeing others, “face to face” going through the same experiences’

‘It’s amazing what we can learn from just listening to people with dementia and gain little gems of information’

You must register to attend this session. To do so, please email education@dementiaoxfordshire.org.uk
