What are carer education sessions?
Supporting someone close to you with dementia can be hard, and many informal carers feel invisible and alone. Our Carer Education Sessions bring informal carers living in the same community together to learn, connect and get support.
Our sessions are written in collaboration with people living with dementia and informal carers too. During the sessions, you’ll learn more about dementia, we’ll discuss common symptoms, and try to understand how it might feel to live with dementia. We’ll also share practical tips and strategies, to help you to cope with the role of being a carer.
Roger, who has cared for his wife since 2018, is part of the team that has created the sessions. He feels those caring for someone living with dementia need to prepare for the emotional challenges ahead. “It can be a very lonely role, but it’s important to remember that you are part of a much wider family of carers, and chatting to people who are going through the same experiences is vital.”
We very much hope that you’ll leave the session with a better understanding of how best to support some with dementia, some ideas about how to look after yourself and a realisation that you are not alone.
How do I attend a session?
All of our education sessions are free to anyone with a dementia diagnosis in Oxfordshire and those that support them. Any upcoming sessions, along with information on their location and timings will be posted on our events page.

Don't just take our word for it
Thank you it was very useful and a great help especially on how to talk and interact thinking differently when talking to my parents

The zoom session was great – So many of the others on the call sounded so lovely and sound like they give up so much for their partners

I must say I was worried about it being 3 hours long but with the short intervals that was no problem

In particular it was helpful to hear about the main differences in dementia and how to talk to the people in their various stages
