iSupport – online training for young dementia carers

2 minute read

What is iSupport?

iSupport is an online training and support programme for dementia carers. The World Health Organization developed it to improve the quality of life of those caring for someone living with dementia.

More specifically, iSupport for Young People was adapted from this programme with the help of six young dementia carers between the ages of 11 and 17. They were consulted at every step to ensure the advice was relevant to young people in a similar situation.

The gaps this training addresses

Many young people share the responsibility of caring for a family member living with dementia. Caring for someone living with dementia as a young person can be a vastly different experience, so the support provided should reflect this.

Luckily, iSupport is a great resource for young people that want to be fully informed about dementia and supported in their role.

What does the training for young people cover?

The programme is split into 5 modules:

  • Introduction to dementia
  • Being a carer
  • Caring for me
  • Providing everyday care
  • Dealing with behaviour changes
Each module contains information, tips, and quizzes to check your understanding of certain situations.

Programmes for adult carers and rare dementias

As you’d expect, you can find the original guidance for adult carers on the iSupport website. You can also access their tailored support for carers of people with rare types of dementia.
