Gilly joined Dementia Oxfordshire in March 2016 and currently coordinates the team of Dementia Advisers in southern Oxfordshire. Previously Gilly worked for 7 years in an advisory role with the Alzheimer’s Society. During this time she has developed a detailed knowledge in supporting people with dementia, benefiting from the extensive in house training offered by the Society. Gilly has been instrumental in establishing and facilitating numerous dementia groups throughout the county.
“I am passionate about helping people with dementia to live as well as they possibly can. I enjoy working in the community and developing partnerships with other agencies and organisations so that we can deliver an ever-improving service. This collaboration helps me continue to expand my understanding of how to support people living with dementia. One initiative that has recently caught my eye is the Dogs for Good ‘Dementia Support Dogs’ pilot and, as the new owner of a young Labrador, I hope that he can train with me to become a support dog.”
Gilly has an NVQ3 in Counselling Skills & Theory, an OU Foundation Course in Social Sciences and an ILM Level 3 qualification in Leadership & Management. She is also a qualified Reiki Practitioner, able to offer impartial advice on alternative/complementary therapies.
