“I joined Dementia Oxfordshire in October 2023. I have worked in the field of dementia support for the last 20 years; having a family member diagnosed with dementia has made it more of a personal journey. Previously, I worked for the NHS supporting people in the community.

I am passionate about caring for people with dementia and it’s important to me that I feel I am making a difference. Over the last few years, I have been volunteering at Dementia Active gaining knowledge and skills and making many friends. Caring for someone with dementia can be very challenging and demanding.

I’d like to contribute to making sure that everyone living with dementia has the individual support that they need and the opportunities to be able to live a more comfortable, happier life. I think working for Dementia Oxfordshire will enable me to do so.

Life is challenging for us all but living with dementia makes it even more challenging. I see my role as helping people with the difficulties and stress that come with coping with everyday life when that is overlapped with dementia.

I want to challenge the stigmas that come with a dementia diagnosis and show that individuals and families can still live a fulfilling life as part of the community and in their own homes; keeping people connected to the communities and not separated from them.”
