We never stop, even for a long run!

Runner, Dominic Heron, taking part in Southend Half Marathon 2023

Congratulations to Dominic Heron on completion of his first major race, the Southend Half Marathon, at age 21. All his hard work and preparation for the last 3 months really paid off. He took up this incredible challenge in memory of his grandfather and to raise funds for Dementia Oxfordshire.

Earlier this year, the Heron family recently lost a most beloved grandfather, Sean O’Neill. He was diagnosed with vascular dementia 12 years ago and sadly passed away on March 1st January 30th 2023.

His grandson, Dominic, wanted to do something in memory of his grandfather and to raise funds for the local dementia charity who supported Sean and his wife Joan so well. In March, he started a tough schedule of training and fundraising, building both his fitness and sponsorship in preparation for the Half Marathon.

The weather on race day was very hot and sticky, not the best conditions for running. Luckily, the route snaked along the Essex coastline, so they benefited from an onshore breeze.

He finished the course in a time of 2 hours and 31 minutes at the Southend Half Marathon on Sunday 11th June, running with both his sister, Becky, and brother, Chris.

What an achievement!

Dominic has successfully raised £526.00 for Dementia Oxfordshire.

Proud mum, Trish Heron, congratulates her son at the finish line. Some of you may recognise Trish. She is our Locality Manager in North & Northwest Oxfordshire and a Dementia Adviser in the Kidlington area.
