Phone Befriender

Dementia Oxfordshire warmly welcome volunteers from all backgrounds who want to make a difference. Being a volunteer can be immensely rewarding, our volunteers tell us they get great satisfaction from supporting people in their community.

We are currently recruiting volunteer Phone Befrienders. This is an opportunity to volunteer from home with the option of occasional visits to the person you call if you wish, once you have completed relevant additional training

In order to live well with dementia people need companionship, enjoyment, understanding and a listening ear. We train our volunteers to befriend, reduce social isolation and increase the well-being of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

All we ask is that you are:

  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Comfortable talking on the phone
  • Keen to help others
  • Have about an hour and a half to give each week
  • happy to learn more about dementia.
